The client, a young family, had just moved into a new house. They wanted a modern and low-maintenance garden, attractive for the children to play and the parents to relax.
A wellness area with a whirlpool, seating and a fire bowl can be reached via the spacious seating area. A lawn frames the house and a border beyond is planted with grasses Carex morrowii, Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ and Miscanthus sinensis ‘Gracillimus’ in combination with Taxus baccata ‘Fastigiata’. Bamboo Phyllostachys nigra ‘Henonis’ and Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ are the focal points in the wellness and seating areas. A herb garden with a figtree (Ficus carica ‘Dalmatie’) can be reached from the kitchen. The colour palette for this garden was limited to green and red to emphasize the minimalistic design.
