The roof terrace, located in Berne’s historic centre, was designed for a professional couple. The terrace is framed by mainly evergreen planting in minimalist bespoke containers. A square water feature reflects leaves and sky. Gently running water creates a peaceful atmosphere in the outdoor room.
Two Japanese maples provide height and interest. Purple blossoms appear in June. The leaves turn orange and carmine in autumn and make the maple the absolute focal point of this terrace.
Hakonechloa, lace ferns and hostas are planted beneath the trees. Seasonal highlights are columbines and spurge in spring and fuchsias and begonias in summer.
